How come How long - Stevie Wonder & Baby Face
TOSH Mag
: Nice having you to share with the readers of TOSH Magazine.
TOSH Mag
: Nice having you to share with the readers of TOSH Magazine.
Andy Murray
: The pleasure is mine. If you do not mind me asking, what does TOSH stand for?
TOSH Mag
: Oh I don't mind at all. TOSH Mag stands for The Official Stars Homepage Magazine. And we are chatting with one of the biggest stars right now.
Andy Murray
: Thank you for sparing me the blushes.
TOSH Mag
: I must say you are certainly packing on the muscles. I dont think Rafael Nadal would be able to compete with you in 2009 in that department.
Andy Murray
: Rafael? Have you seen him lately? That guy looks like Superman with a cape!
TOSH Mag
: And you are looking more like Batman with a cape!
Andy Murray
: You do not give in easily, do you?
TOSH Mag
: Not really. You know that is part of our characteristics. (Laugh) But my point is true though. Kindly tell us how you are preparing for 2009 and packing on those muscles! I could use a few.
Andy Murray
: (Smiles) Well, you just have to improve a lot nowadays as skill and technique is clearly not enough nowadays. One of the things I lacked was stamina and my new team of fitness experts helped a lot in bridging that gap in 2008. So now, we intend to work harder so that 2009 can be a memorable one.
TOSH Mag
: So which tastes better Andy? World No 4 or Grand slam finalist.
Andy Murray
: Neither. I want to be remembered for winning Grand slams, Masters series and ATP's. Of course the ranking helps you avoid more top guns but as you know, on any day anyone can beat you off the court.
TOSH Mag
: Wow. That is an interesting way of answering that question. So which Grand Slam do you want to win the most and which one do you think you might win in 2009!
Andy Murray
: It's gotta be the Wimbledon. I mean 1936 when an Englishman won it last, it's been a long wait. That would be a dream come true. But my game suits the hard court more so realisticly that might mean winning the US Open.
TOSH Mag
: Not forgetting that you won the 2004 Juniors Open and was the runners up few months ago (2008).
Andy Murray
: Exactly.
TOSH Mag
: Now to a question you might not like to answer. However it would be great if you could shed some light on it as it might help some of your fans or people generally out there.
Andy Murray
: Now this is getting more exciting. I'm all ears.
TOSH Mag
: The Dunblane Massacre in 1996. Do you still remember it vaguely?
Andy Murray
: You are right saying it is something I might not want to talk about. Though I did touch the topic a bit in my autobiography.
TOSH Mag
: That's fine. We respect that. I was trying to draw strength from your experience for others who might have lost someone in a similar scenario or otherwise.
Andy Murray
: (Draws his breath). May be I can just say some few things about it just beacause of the way you put it. Well as you stated earlier, it happened in 1996 when I was only 9 years old.
It was a very terrible experience which I do not pray for anyone to go through. Thomas killed i think 15, 16 or 17 people before killing himself. I could have been one of those kids. That is why I take my career seriously because I feel there was a reason my life was spared. That is all I can say at this moment.
TOSH Mag
: Thank you so much. For those of our readers that might not know what we were talking about - We were discussing the 1996 Dunblane Massacre. Thomas Hamilton killed 17 people (a ot of kids were in this number) and he eventually killed himself with his gun. Andy Murray experienced this first hand as he had to hide in a classroom whilst this was going on. The terrible part was that Andy's Mum had gave the Killer a ride in their car on many occasions as they attended his youth group organisation.
Well back to the interview, I'm sure this might help one or two people out there. I mean personally, I feel even stronger now from what I've heard. And my last question, do you think the gap has closed between the top 3 (Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic)
and the rest in the Top 100 ranked players?
Andy Murray
: Very close now. Though the difference between the ranking points might be a lot but it is getting closer and on any day, anyone can be beaten.
TOSH Mag
: Thanks again for the interview.
Andy Murray
: Any time.
